Marysville is serviced by a daily
local out-and-back train originating from the Sacramento Old Town
Yard, and occasionally a turn from
Los Angeles, usually with 13 setouts
and 13 pickups, and a caboose. 14 industries have a total of 40
spots. Some rookie operators have gotten stuck in this town for
hours due to the many required runarounds and switchbacks.
Originally this area was hidden staging, then was expanded to
accommodate an operator who had a bad back, and needed to roll back
and forth on a chair when operating. Marysville now is often
requested by experienced operators.
During 4
interchange operation, this area is the responsibility of the
Western Pacific. Those WP employees who are updating their resumes
and attempting to get on at the LS&I are anxious to be able to list
experience at Marysville as a qualifying factor. Unfortunately for
many, their error rate is published by Dr. Smith.
