The massive damage from the 1948
earthquake and subsequent Toiyabe volcano eruption that had wiped out
the Sierra Central trackage between Chico and Red Bluff has finally been
repaired, and service has been restored to the many businesses there.
The Sierra Central now runs a 20 car train from Merced, Modesto,
Manteca, Stockton, and Lodi through Old Town Sacramento, the Docks,
Marysville, and Chico to Red Bluff and back each day. Businesses served
in Red Bluff include Jackson Guitars, Ralston Purina, Wieser Waffles,
Bruce Better Bedpans, Hovey Freight Depot, Hammarstrom and Gould Suds,
Independent Grocers Alliance, Alfieri-McBee Paint Co., Epley’s Team
Track, and the General Store. Business is booming. |
