Columbia Cascade
Railway -Bridgeport |
|
Bridgeport is one of the busiest areas
on the Columbia Cascade. The city of Bridgeport operates the
Bridgeport Terminal Railroad and to be expected, the switching crew here complains
continually about being overworked. To date, the city has refused to
add additional crews but at some point in the future, they may have to
find money in the budget and relent. Moore Pharmaceuticals, Kronenburg Kartage,
Frito-Lay, Owens Corning, Chagnon
Steel, are among the big players in Bridgeport. |
 |
Looking across the Coldwater River you
can see Kronenberg & Sons Storage. Behind is Walton Industries and Bridgeport
Grain. |
|
Looking East in Bridgeport, Moore
Pharmaceuticals with Chagnon Steel in the far background and Sprenger
Seafood next to the river and bay area. |
 |
 |
Another view of Moore Pharmaceuticals.
Raw liquid materials are unloaded at a spur to the front and finished
products as well as raw materials in box cars arrive at the dock doors.
Moore makes a large number of livestock feed additives.

Chagnon Steel has a steel fabrication
plant that
makes a lot of different stamped and fabricated parts. They
manufacturer parts for appliances like refrigerators,
washer, dryers, ranges, microwaves, etc and probably the biggest
commodity is specialized door parts for the auto industry. Box car
shipping comes out from two different track, coil steel in on the third. |
|
Coil steel is shipped in here.
Sprenger Seafoods is on the left and set right on the river with bay
access to the ocean. Great Seafoods arrive here fresh daily
for the local and distant market. |
 |
 |
Sprenger Seafoods once iced its own
refers. The platforms and docks were removed and new overhead
doors replaced. Otherwise the building is much the same after 70
years. The Switching crew has to be careful as in the 40's a
crew got a little rough and put 3 refers off the end of the spur and
into the bay. |
