PRR/Reading
 

This is the “major” town on the PRR branch, and a division point for the Reading main line. This is the one town these 2 carriers interchange even though they track within 100 yards of each other for most of the 30 miles of this PRR branch.

In my version of Shamokin, the PRR and Reading have separate “areas of influence” – Reading in West Shamokin and PRR in East Shamokin.

West Shamokin is a combined commercial/industrial area served by the Reading Sunbury Turn with the central Shamokin yard as home base.

East Shamokin is served by the PRR Branch line Peddler freight (Harrisburg – Mt. Carmel). This area is primarily industrial/mfg. with a small number of commercial/wholesale areas closer/adjacent to downtown Shamokin.
 

This is the engine terminal for the Reading at Shamokin.  The Pennsy mainline runs to the edge of the layout with the interchange track between the Pennsy and the Reading the next track over.   The Reading yard stretches out to the east.
