My railroad
attempts to represent today’s BNSF main line running from St. Louis to
Tulsa and includes intersecting lines in between –
BNSF line from
Kansas City to Memphis
Union Pacific /
MN&S
Kansas City
Southern
Arkansas &
Missouri
The railroad
occupies 1400 square feet and journeys through several rooms in the
basement. Most of the layout is at least 2 levels and has 3 helixes to
connect these.
The BNSF
mainline is +/- 600’; the A&M mainline is +/- 120’. There are 4 staging
areas and several active yards. The layout has plenty of switching as
evidenced by the # of turnouts – 400 – most of which are hand thrown.
A typical
operating session would schedule 22 trains to be run with 500 cars total
to switch. Several way freights are typically added to the mix.
The control system
is Digitrax with radio throttles. There is no time clock or central
dispatching. Car card routing system is used.
The current philosophy on
scenery is minimalism. |
